News Channel Nebraska to Broadcast State Games Events
Lincoln, Neb. (May 14, 2021) - Nebraska Sports Council (NSC) officials announced today that the organization has partnered with News Channel Nebraska (NCN) to televise select events of the 2021 Cornhusker State Games.
News Channel Nebraska will broadcast both the Opening Ceremonies and the Men’s Basketball Gold Division Championship Game to more than 500,000 households across the state.
The Opening Ceremonies, which is molded after the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, will take place on Friday, July 16 at Seacrest Field in Lincoln starting at 8 PM. Elements of this year’s Opening Ceremonies include the parade of athletes, national anthem, a tribute to Nebraska healthcare workers, skydiver demo, mascot showcase, a sport exhibition featuring retriever dogs, the caldron-lighting by a mystery torch-lighter, the Governor’s Opening Declaration and a fireworks display.
The Men’s Basketball Gold Division Championship Game, which generally features teams made up of current and/or former collegiate players from around the region, will be held Sunday, July 18 at Speedway Sports Complex in Lincoln.
In addition to being televised, both the Opening Ceremonies and the Basketball Championship will be streamed for free online at NewsChannelNebraska.com as well as on the NCN Facebook Page.

The 37th annual Cornhusker State Games will run from July 16-25, with more than 70 different sports being offered to Nebraska athletes of all ages and abilities. Competitions will take place at more than 50 venues in and around Lincoln, Omaha, Kearney, Grand Island, and Columbus, with upwards of 10,000 athletes expected to participate.
